The Economics students under the aegis of the Economics Students Association of Nigeria have passed a vote of confidence on the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) on its dynamic courses in finance, securities and investment, designed to empower youths. The students who recently held a conference, hosted by the Economics Department of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, expressed optimism that they would ultimately make a career in the financial market.
Speaking at the conference, the Staff Adviser, Economics Department, OAU, Dr. Oluwole Aiyegbusi explained that the Economics students have been exposed to the opportunities and challenges that abound in the capital market by virtue of their academic background. He also announced that economics departments all over the country were already working out modalities by which they can benefit from array of courses introduced by the CIS to assist youths in order to make career in the finance and securities market.
Earlier in his keynote address, the Registrar and Chief Executive of CIS, Mr. Adedeji Ajadi explained to the students that the Council of the Institute approved the Diploma in Securities and Investment to enable youths develop a strong foundation that can launch them into a career path in the securities and financial market. According to him, members of the Institute are leaders across all sectors of the economy worldwide. He also advised the students to take advantage of the platform offered by the CIS. He said further that CIS as a member of Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) allows global mobility and opportunities for members of CIS to practice in over 37 countries all over the world.
Mr. Ajadi also enjoined the undergraduates to take up the opportunity of writing the CIS diploma while in school for them to have an edge during job search, as the CIS diploma is the minimum standard for working in the capital market industry. The students at the conference generally commended the Institute’s initiatives in creating many ways to enable individuals become self employed. They promised to take advantage of the opportunity while at school. CIS final Professional Examination is a precondition for becoming a Chartered Stockbroker.
